If you have a minute or two to spare, you can catch up with short videos featuring interviews with key players in the IPMWORKS project. Recorded at the Integrated Pest Management project’s second annual meeting in Switzerland, the five ‘IPMWORKS in a minute’ videos offer an oversight into its work.
The May 31 deadline for applications to the four-year PhD programme in agrobiodiversity offered by Italy’s Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies is rapidly approaching. Six scholarships are available for the course, four offered by Sant’Anna and two by the European Union.
The European Commission has launched an extensive database providing an overview of currently available Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods. The ‘Farmer’s Toolbox for Integrated Pest Management’ currently comprises more than 1,300 examples of good practices alongside more than 270 crop-specific guidelines.
More details, including the second announcement and launch of a website, are now available for this year’s International Conference on BioProtection for Sustainable Agriculture (ICBPSA23). The event is scheduled for July 26 to 28 in Can Tho, Vietnam, and is being organised by five Vietnamese universities and CIRAD, France’s agricultural research and cooperation organisation working on sustainable development, the three day event will comprise of one day of plenary sessions, one day of parallel sessions and one day of field visits.
The IPMWORKS H2020 project has staged a four-day exhibition at the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg to demonstrate the impact of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on pest control to MEPs and the European Union Agricultural Commissioner. Entitled ‘Towards a Europe without pesticides within the framework of the European Green Deal and the reform of the SUD/SUR directive’, the event was supported by MEP Claude Gruffat (Greens, France).
The IPM Decisions project has updated its online platform and now offers 26 Decision Support Systems (DSS) for Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In addition, the platform offers access to a further 17 DSS through links to developers’ websites.
Agroecology Europe is to hold its 2023 Forum from November 16 to 18 in Hungary. The three-day in-person event will bring together people “from all over Europe and beyond to meet in dialogue and discuss some of the most pressing issues and present solutions for today’s food systems”.
Budding video makers are being invited to produce a film of up to 3 minutes describing what sustainable crop production means to them. Open to all, the ERA-Net SusCrop video competition is offering a €1,000 top prize in four categories, with second and third place prizes of €300 and €200 respectively.

Agroscope, ENDURE’s Swiss partner, has shared the findings of a pan-European study detailing the adverse effect plant protection products have on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), reducing their ability to supply plants with phosphorus via their roots.
