ENDURE scientists Lise Nistrup Jørgensen and Neal Evans will be among more than 70 speakers at the British Crop Production Council’s 2009 Congress, which is being held from November 9 until November 11 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow.
Lise, from Denmark’s Aarhus University, and Neal, from Rothamsted Research in the UK, will be addressing a session dedicated to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on Tuesday November 10. They will be revealing more details about EuroWheat.org, a new research-based website designed to support integrated disease management in wheat.
The site has been created to collate data and information about disease management practices from several countries across Europe and is targeted at local agricultural advisers, plant breeders and industry. More information on EuroWheat will be available on this site in the next few weeks. For details of the Congress, go to . www.bcpccongress.com
ENDURE coordinator Pierre Ricci will also be speaking in November. He has been invited by Bernard Blum, leader of ENDURE’s team examining the exploitation of natural biological processes and head of international affairs at the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association, to address the Académie d’Agriculture de France (French Academy of Agriculture).
The Academy, which was founded by King Louis XV in 1761 and includes members from 38 different countries, has a three-fold programme examining the necessary evolution of plant protection and the available or foreseeable methods.
This was launched in May in a joint session with the Académie de Médecine de France (French Academy of Medicine) devoted to pesticides and will conclude with an examination of alternative biological solutions in 2010. The November 25 session in Paris will be dedicated to IPM, with Pierre Ricci addressing the topic of long-term perspectives for crop protection in IPM.
