The specific objectives of the Virtual Laboratory are to:

• Promote the sharing of biological resources that underpin research in crop protection, and of the expertise needed to exploit these most effectively.
• Identify and facilitate the sharing of facilities for laboratory and field-based research.
• Review existing methodologies and facilitate the standardisation of these when appropriate.
• Develop unified theoretical approaches to crop protection taking into account regional contexts (including technical and socio-economical aspects), and provide support with the construction of models and decision support systems.
• Promote the use of information and communication technologies for more effective implementation of pest management recommendations.
