ENDURE’s first PhD summer school in 2007 was based on the theme Biodiversity supporting crop protection and attracted more than 130 applicants from more than 50 countries for the week-long course in Tuscany, Italy.
The successful applicants, including students from the USA, Australia, Africa, China, the Middle East and Europe, spent a week studying at SIAF, an International School of Advanced Education recently established by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa and the Foundation of the Cassa di Risparmio di Volterra, situated 60km south-east of Pisa.
Lecturers included recognised experts from ENDURE partners and integrated pest management (IPM) specialist Robert J Norris, from the University of California, USA, tackled a curriculum including:
