Italy's Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa (SSSUP) is set to launch the fifth year of its International Doctorate in Agrobiodiversity, a PhD programme run in collaboration with the Italian National Academy of Sciences and funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MiUR).
Six scholarships are available to motivated students from any country, with applications from developing countries particularly welcome. Applicants must include a description of the research project they would like to carry out during the three-year period of the Doctorate, for which English is the only language envisaged.
The course aims to contribute to the enhancement of human resource capacity in the utilisation and management of biodiversity in agricultural and natural systems, and to improve the sustainability of agriculture and the conservation of genetic resources and agroecosystem (bio)diversity for the well-being of present and future generations.
An International Scientific Board supervises activities and ensures educational and research excellence as well as overseeing the choice of themes relevant to developing countries' agriculture, where applicable.
Online applications must be made before Wednesday, October 1, 2008.
