Agroecology Europe, a European association to promote agroecology created in 2016 by 19 founding members from 10 countries, is to stage its first Agroecology Europe Forum this autumn and will be focusing on ‘Fostering synergies between movements, science and practice’.
The two and a half day event is being held at ISARA, a higher education institute specialising in agronomy, food and the environment, in Lyon, France, from October 25 to 27. It is “open to all kinds of actors and intends to foster interactions between various stakeholders such as scientists, practitioners, social movements, civil society and policy makers, by facilitating knowledge sharing and common action”.
The organisers note: “The First Agroecology Europe Forum intends to bring together actors from a wide horizon, willing to share their views and knowledge to design the agricultural and food systems of tomorrow. Tackling challenges related to global changes, environmental issues, consumer and citizen expectations require new knowledge and progress in agroecology.
“Therefore, innovation is required to develop integrative approaches which bridge existing gaps, to integrate different forms of knowledge from a broad variety of stakeholders, to create new initiatives, and to formulate policy recommendations for new pathways towards sustainable agricultural and food systems.”
The programme will include a World Café, plenary and parallel sessions, panel discussions and workshops. Posters will be exhibited throughout the Forum in an open space aimed to facilitate networking among participants, say the organisers. More details will be available via a second circular, which will be distributed at the end of June.
