The COCOREADO website has now gone live, giving internet users the opportunity to learn more about the Horizon 2020 project which will be “connecting consumers and producers to rebalance farmers’ position”.
The project, whose name was inspired by the Esperanto word for co-creation, brings together 13 academic and close-to-farmers partners from nine countries, including the European Council of Young Farmers, the International Movement of Catholic Agricultural and Rural Youth, and Rural Youth Europe, as the project has a particular focus on the young.
The website explains that it is a “project designed to rebalance the position of the farmer as an individual actor, as a key player in innovative food supply chains, and as a supplier for public procurement.
“Based on the multi-actor approach and a deep understanding of agricultural knowledge and innovation systems (AKIS), the project applies a three-fold approach to maximise impact, relying on ambassadorship, good practices, and a focus on youth.”
Over the course of the next three years, the project will be developing 10 good practices on public procurement, and a further 15 good practices on novel and fair systems. A particularly important role will be played by 40 specially trained project ambassadors.
“The project will encourage young people in rural areas to co-create innovative solutions that overcome obstacles for farmers, address consumer needs and improve the conditions for the sustainable public procurement of local and seasonal food,” the project reports.
