ENDURE CROP PROTECTION GRANTS FOR SCIENTISTS FROM INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION PARTNER COUNTRIES (ICPC) - YEAR 2010

1. Introduction
ENDURE is now launching an international call for applications for grants for three scientists from International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC) who wish to spend a period of up to three months working at one of the ENDURE research or university participant institutions.
2. Aim
Integration of research teams from ICPC target countries is a priority of the ENDURE network. The aim of ENDURE - ICPC grants is to foster an exchange of knowledge between ICPC target countries and ENDURE partners in order to promote sustainable crop protection research/techniques and share experience of complex tropical crop-pest systems which may be of benefit to European agriculture.
3. Beneficiaries
The grants will be awarded to three scientists with a research position relevant to crop protection issues in one of the ICPC countries who wish to spend up to a three-month period working at one of the ENDURE participating research organisation (list is available at http://www.endure-network.eu/what_is_endure/partners/research_organisations) or university (list is available at http://www.endure-network.eu/what_is_endure/partners/universities). 4. Conditions for application
Conditions for application for ENDURE – ICPC grants are:
a) the grants must be entirely used in connection with the stay at the ENDURE host research or university institution;
b) the research work should contribute to ENDURE objectives (explicit reference to relevant ENDURE activities and sub-activities must be provided). 5. Application procedure
The applicant must:
a) complete the application form in all its parts, including the programme of planned research activities to be carried out at the ENDURE hosting institution and the description of the expected benefits from the stay at the hosting institution;
b) provide a short CV (maximum 2 pages);
c) provide a letter of acceptance from the hosting institution, indicating the name and position of the supervisor;
d) send the complete application by email to federica.piccolo@ibaf.cnr.it before the deadline.
Missing information will result in the application being rejected.
6. Evaluation criteria
For this call the following evaluation criteria are applied:
a) relevance and contribution of the planned research activities to ENDURE objectives;
b) scientific quality of the programme of planned research activities;
c) candidate’s role in his/her Institute and his/her effective capacity to carry on a lasting collaboration with the hosting institute (based on CV’s evaluation);
d) length of visit (priority will be given to 3 months-long visits);
e) number of ICPC researchers already hosted by the hosting institution in the previous Endure ICPC calls.
7. Grants
The ENDURE grants will be allocated, following a joint evaluation procedure, conducted by the leaders of ENDURE IA3 and SA3 activities. The names of the successful candidates will be published on the ENDURE website (IA3 web pages) by 30h November 2009 .
Successful candidates will be notified immediately after the evaluation process. The successful applicants must confirm acceptance of the grant by sending an e-mail to federica.piccolo@ibaf.cnr.it by 15th December 2009 .
Eligible costs are:
a) travel: one return trip from the home institution to the ENDURE hosting institution (max. € 1200)
b) accommodation and living expenses: according to ENDURE hosting institution rules; however, all costs should be documented.
The monthly allowance will be in the range of € 2,000 but will be adjusted accordingly to the country of the ENDURE hosting institution.
The following contributions to expenses for the hosting institution:
· € 500 per month for clearly-defined laboratory or field work
· € 250 per month for a desk job
Bench-fees are not applicable to ENDURE mobility and the contribution to expenses will be included to the ENDURE budget of the hosting institution.
Successful candidates will be notified immediately after the evaluation process.
Money will be transferred from the ENDURE hosting institution to the visiting researcher. The hosting institution will withhold 20% of the grant until the IA3 leader has approved the final report.
8. Obligations
At the end of the visit, the grant holder must send his/her final report via e-mail to the assistant of the ENDURE mobility leader ( federica.piccolo@ibaf.cnr.it) within 15 days from the end of his/her visit and will be published in the mobility web pages.
The mobility periods must be completed by 15th November 2010 .

10. Successful applicants to the ENDURE 2010 mobility call for Scientists from ICPC
The applications have been jointly evaluated by M. Sattin (Leader of IA3 activity - ENDURE mobility), J.L. Sarah (Leader of sub-activity IA1.3 – Linking with partners outside ENDURE) and A. Percy-Smith (Aarhus University). The evaluation was based on the evaluation criteria indicated in the call.
