France has officially launched its €30 million research programme designed to deliver high-performance, more sustainable agriculture that uses pesticides only as a last resort. It is seeking to produce agricultural systems based on prevention (prophylaxis) and agroecology, and will also address changes in value chains.
As we reported earlier this year, ENDURE partner INRA is the scientific lead for the six-year programme and it will also involve ENDURE’s other French partners CIRAD and ACTA, as the country seeks to extend the work in its Ecophyto plan and produce genuine innovations and changes in practices over the coming decade or so.
The programme is called ‘Cultiver et Protéger Autrement’ (cultivating and protecting differently) and a call for projects was launched in June by France’s National Research Agency (ANR), focusing on the following themes:
Reporting on the opening seminar, held in Paris on World Environment Day in June, France’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation said in parallel with the research programme, numerous events will be held for the scientific community and the agricultural sector, including annual conferences, as well as the production of information documents for farmers.
