Students from across the globe have been selected for ENDURE's 2009 PhD Summer School, Modelling approaches to support integrated pest management.
The Summer School organising committee sifted through a large number of applicants, before selecting the final 16 plus a further six substitute students (see Selected Students for the lists). Successful students have until March 18 to accept their places and confirm their travel plans.
Applicants were judged on their motivation, the relevance of their PhD project to the Summer School topics, their CV and their fluency in English. The 16 selected students come from five continents - Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia - and will be studying together at SIAF, an Italian International School of Advanced Education recently established by Summer School organiser Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa and the Foundation of the Cassa di Risparmio di Volterra.
The objective of the Summer School is to give an overview to all students of a wide range of modelling approaches and their pros and cons that can be applied to develop or test innovative IPM strategies, and to allow students to work with experts of some of these models on a case study in order to widen their view on modelling approaches for IPM.
