The sixth leaflet in ENDURE’s Training in Integrated Pest Management series is now available. The leaflet focuses on the participatory training method developed by the Organic Rice Production in Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ORPESA) project in southern France.
In Learning from ORPESA: A participatory approach for growers and researchers experts from France’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) explain how they developed a structured vocational educational training programme to support the conversion to organic production and to help producers improve organic rice growing in the Camargue region.
The method was based on the sharing of technical, practical and theoretical knowledge within a group consisting of rice growers, both organic and conventional, and other stakeholders.
Each work session was based on discussions of farmers’ own practices, with input from experts in the subjects being dealt with. After two years, the satisfactory results have encouraged the team to continue the work using the same approach.
This is the sixth leaflet in ENDURE’s Training in Integrated Pest Management series. You can download them all below. These leaflets also form a part of ENDURE’s online IPM Training Guide. Details of all ENDURE’s publications are available here.
