The four-year EUCLID project (Europe-China Lever for Integrated Pest Management Demonstration) has now drawn to a close, with its main results shared with various key recipients over the course of two days of meetings at the University of Avignon in France.
A four-year Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Action, EUCLID brought together 18 partners from seven countries, including universities, research institutions, SMEs and retailers, seeking to develop more sustainable pest management approaches in tomatoes, leafy vegetables and grapes, crops chosen because of their economic importance in Europe and China.
The first day of the Avignon meetings comprised a workshop specifically designed for farmers, advisers and SMEs, in order to transfer the IPM technologies developed in the project. Non-chemical pesticides developed by EUCLID were presented and discussed with the audience.
The following day a final conference was held featuring EUCLID’s main outputs followed by a final roundtable with key stakeholders to discuss project impacts, including the management of pests and invasive alien species, development of relevant European Union policies, increased product quality and lower environmental impact, and consumer awareness and attitude towards IPM.
EUCLID’s work has included:
EUCLID included field experiments and demonstrations in four countries, both in Europe and China, with an estimated 300 beneficiaries, including farmers, advisers, technicians and industry personnel. In addition, the project has been in direct interactions with actors in the agri-food system, including IPM developers, retailers, consumers and policy makers, reaching a total of 30,000 stakeholders.
