France’s Cultiver et Protéger Autrement (Growing and protecting crops differently) national priority research programme is to launch a series of webinars, beginning on Monday August 31. The priority programme is designed to support research towards pesticide-free agriculture by producing breakthroughs in knowledge.
The webinars will bring together European researchers working on the future of agriculture with researchers focusing on crop health and crop protection. The webinars will provide the opportunity for presentations on scenarios for the future of agriculture at the national, European and global scales and provide space for discussions on underlying assumptions in crop protection.
The two-hour online conferences will begin with a session dedicated to ‘Crop Protection and Scenarios for the Future of Agriculture, the context of the webinar’ and will run from 10am to midday on Monday August 31.
It will include an introduction from Christian Huyghe, INRAE’s scientific director for agriculture and scientific director of the ‘Towards Chemical Pesticide-free Agriculture’ European Research Alliance, and Florence Jacquet, INRAE’s scientific director of the Cultiver et Protéger Autrement programme.
They will be followed by INRAE’s Olivier Mora, who will present the ‘Pathways to chemical pesticide-free agriculture in Europe in 2050’ foresight study, including the interaction between the foresight exercise and supported research projects. He will be followed by Allan Buckwell, of the Institute for European Environmental Policy and co-author of the RISE Foundation’s 2020 report, who will address ‘Crop protection and the EU food system: Where are they going?’
Further webinars will be held on September 10 (‘Crop Protection and Studies on the Future of Agriculture at national scales’), September 24 (‘Crop Protection and Studies on the Future of Agriculture at the European scale’) and October 12 (‘Crop Protection and Studies on the Future of Agriculture at the global scale’), all running from 10am to midday.
