More than 150 delegates from research and farming across Europe and beyond attended the virtual conference on ‘Intercropping for Sustainability’ in January. The event was organised by the DIVERSify and ReMIX projects, working hand in hand with the Association of Applied Biologists.
Given the ongoing pandemic, organisers were determined the event go ahead virtually, blending a mixture of talks, discussions and poster sessions over the course of three days. The event covered a broad range of themes such as crop breeding, understanding biodiversity mechanisms, practical intercrop management and decision support. It also included contributions from other projects in the Crop Diversification Cluster.
The organisers report: “This fruitful conference permitted sharing of results at the leading edge of knowledge on intercropping. Despite being online, it allowed delegates to interact with speakers and posters presenters and foresee future avenues, not only for research but also for European farming systems. We look forward to continuing these discussions in a range of upcoming events.”
These online events include ‘Troubleshooting the practical challenges of intercropping’, ‘European legumes in transition’ and ‘Intercropping to boost agroecology in Europe’. For more details follow the links below.
