Scientists from Egypt and Algeria will be spending up to three months conducting research work in Italy as a result of ENDURE's grant scheme for researchers from INCO (International Cooperation) countries.
The grants, which cover accommodation and travel expenses, have been awarded to researchers from the Horticulture Research Institute in Cairo, Egypt and the Institut National Agronomique in Algiers, Algeria.
They will be conducting their research at the Scuola Superiore Sant' Anna (SSSUP) in Pisa and the CNR Institute of Food Production Sciences in Bari. One researcher will be examining the use of natural metabolites of bacterial and plant origin to control parasitic weeds of the Orobanche (broomrape) and Cuscuta (dodder) families, and the other focusing on the impact of weed management strategies on growth and quality in organic horticulture.
