Reminder: EUVRIN IPM meeting in November

October 10, 2019

The next meeting of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Working Group of the European Vegetable Research Institutes Network (EUVRIN) will be at Vegenov, Saint Pol de Léon, France, on November 14 and 15, 2019.

EUVRIN is an informal, voluntary organisation of research institutes or research institute departments that specialise in research, development and extension on vegetable production and which are based within European Union countries.

EUVRIN’s objectives are to:

  • To establish and improve cooperation between vegetable R&D institutes and teams within Europe.
  • To promote the exchange of information on vegetable research and development, in particular via annual or biennial meetings of its board and specific working groups, and the organisation of international workshops and conferences.
  • To enhance and facilitate coordinated research, development and technology transfer, focused on aiding sustainable vegetable production. To enhance joint bids for funding of R&D in international and European programmes (for example, Interreg, Cost actions, Horizon 2020 etc.).
  • Conduct surveys on the changing priorities in vegetable R&D within participant countries. Establishing and updating a research agenda and communicate it to national and international European authorities.

The focus of the EUVRIN IPM working group is IPM for pests, pathogens and weeds in outdoor and protected vegetable crops. Its key objectives are:

  • To provide farmers and growers with the tools to implement the Sustainable Use Directive and address National Action plans.
  • To establish a platform to identify gaps and to prioritise and agree research objectives and to influence the direction of future research calls.
  • To enhance collaboration to share information and address common problems.
  • To engage with researchers in all countries within the EU.
  • To promote communication for information exchange, collaboration, setting standards, with other EUVRIN groups.
  • To achieve sustainable approaches to pest management through agroecology, system level integration of techniques, biopesticides, chemical ecology, beneficial insects, physical barriers, new technical solutions to address new pest problems, DSS for pests and diseases and other approaches
  • To establish good links with other areas of expertise in agriculture and the wider industry.
