Conference: Book now to avoid disappointment

October 18, 2010

With more than 260 people already registered for ENDURE’s second international conference, Integrated Pest Management in Europe - The ENDURE Network of Excellence shares the fruits of four years’ research with the crop protection community, those wanting to attend should book now to avoid disappointment.

Although no fees are being charged for the conference, which is being held at the Eurosites George V conference facility in Paris, France, on November 24 and 25, registration is compulsory. Book now on the conference website.

Also available on the conference website is the detailed programme for the event, which is being organised around five themes:

  • CASE STUDIES: Designing IPM strategies for improving sustainability and reducing pesticide dependency
  • EXTENSION: Interfacing with European farm advisers and IPM trainers
  • ENDURE beyond 2010
  • RESEARCH: Priorities and prospects in IPM research and technology
  • IPM IMPLEMENTATION: The ingredients for successful IPM implelentation in Europe.

The event promises to be much more pro-active than a traditional conference. For example, participants will have lots of opportunities to try out ENDURE tools such as the ENDURE Information Centre, to examine new training material and to join ENDURE’s Network of Advisers, alongside the debates and workshops.

The conference will also provide important information for policy makers from European Member States. Policy makers across the continent have to draw up National Action Plans for the introduction of IPM by 2014 - an obligation for EU Member States under Directive 2009/128/EC (the 'sustainable use' directive). ENDURE has compared the strategies of different countries that have already begun to build their National Action Plans and will provide details of this work at the conference. ENDURE can also offer independent scientific expertise to policy makers through its Network of Experts.

The conference will provide farmers, advisers, policy makers, researchers and representatives of the farm supply chain and food retail sectors across Europe with the opportunity to better appreciate, critique, feed into and benefit from ENDURE’s research strategies and outputs. It will also provide a preview of, and help us improve, the permanent European Research Group that will maintain, update and enrich the resources made available by ENDURE.

If you have colleagues who would benefit from attending, please do not hesitate to download the pdf below and send it to them. For updates on conference preparations, follow this site and check regularly on the conference website.
