ENDURE, the European Network for the Durable Exploitation of Crop Protection Strategies, is a Network of Excellence (NoE) funded by the European Commission under the Sixth Framework programme.
ENDURE brings together more than 300 researchers in the fields of agronomy, biology, ecology, economics and the social sciences from 18 organisations in 10 European countries. They are committed to the ENDURE NoE for four years (2007-2010).
Four themes cutting across all the various ENDURE projects have been identified and provide a coherent approach to achieving its objectives

UK reviews options for 'pesticides package' The United Kingdom has launched a 12-week consultation on how best to introduce the European Union’s new 'pesticides package’, inviting all interested parties to contribute to a process which will help the government draw up ‘implementing legislation’ to bring UK pesticide law into line with the new European legislation.
Fourth German leaflet completes potato series The fourth and final leaflet in German from ENDURE’s From Science to Field Potato Case Study series is now available online. Widerstandsfähige Sorten gegen die Kartoffelkraut- und Knollenfäule (Using Cultivar Resistance to Reduce Inputs Against Late Blight) reveals the significant role that late blight resistance can play in reducing fungicide inputs as part of an integrated control strategy.
EuroWheat: download the guide ENDURE has produced a new guide to the key features of www.eurowheat.org, the research-based website that supports integrated disease management in wheat. Developed by Denmark's Aarhus University in collaboration with its ENDURE colleagues, EuroWheat now has 13 partners and non-ENDURE members are welcome to join the partnership.

Guide to tackling WCR now available Western corn rootworm (WCR) has plagued American maize growers for more than a century and become a serious pest in Europe too, spreading across a broad swathe of Central Europe since first being discovered in Serbia in 1992. A new guide from ENDURE examines ways of tackling the pest using an Integrated Pest Management approach.
'African Women in Agricultural Research and Development' (AWARD), a project of the CGIAR Gender & Diversity Programme, is now accepting applications for its 2010 fellowships. Deadline: 22/03/2010.
Call for Letters of Intent for Innovative Frontier Research Grants: Award Year 2011. The Human Frontier Science Programme supports international preferably intercontinental collaborations in basic life science research with emphasis placed on innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to fundamental investigations. Applications are invited for grants to support frontier approaches to understanding complex mechanisms of living organisms. Applicants are expected to develop novel lines of research distinct from their ongoing research. Preliminary results are not required. Deadline: 22/03/2010.
23-25 March 2010: Cardiff, Wales
With some of the chemicals used for slug and snail control facing withdrawal, the slug and snail subgroup of the IOBC/WPRS is staging a three-day meeting at Cardiff University, Wales, with the emphasis on coming up with new, integrated, adaptable and knowledge-led approaches to controlling slug and snail pests.
ENDURE’s response to IPM principles now online Useful new documents have been added to the pages offering information for policy makers, including ENDURE’s response to last year’s BiPRO report to the European Commission's Directorate General-Environment examining guidance for establishing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.
Under the Julius Nyerere Masters Scholarships scheme two scholarships will be awarded to students from Tanzania for postgraduate Masters study in any subject offered by the University of Edinburgh for the 2010-2011 academic session. Deadline: 01/04/2010.
