Valencia in Spain plays host to the 8th International Symposium on Fruit Flies of Economic Importance, the first time the event, held once every four years, has been held in Europe since 1986.
Topics that will be tackled include biology, ecology and behaviour; genetics, taxonomy, morphology and evolution; and risk assessment, quarantine and post-harvest treaments. There will also be the opportunity to visit Europe's largest facility for producing sterile fruit flies, which is situated some 80km outside the city.
